Steam Iron for Hotel Rooms: Buying Guide with Specs, Safety & Pricing

The steam iron is an essential in-room amenity for business hotels — guests iron their shirts before meetings, and a faulty iron is a guaranteed complaint. Yet many hotels buy the cheapest iron available, resulting in burned clothes, tripped circuits, and guest dissatisfaction.

This guide covers every specification for bulk-buying hotel steam irons: wattage, soleplate material, steam output, safety features, and fair pricing for India.

Wattage: Balance Power & Circuit Safety

Hotel steam irons range from 1200W to 1800W. Higher wattage means faster heating and better steam, but also higher circuit load. Most Indian hotel rooms have 6A circuits (1320W max), so specify 1200-1300W irons to avoid tripping.

For rooms with 15A circuits, 1500W irons are ideal — they heat in 60 seconds and produce consistent steam. Always verify the room's electrical capacity before specifying iron wattage.

Soleplate Material: Ceramic vs Stainless Steel

Ceramic soleplates are the 2026 standard — they glide smoothly, distribute heat evenly, and don't stick to fabrics. They're also scratch-resistant and easy to clean. Specify 'ceramic-coated soleplate with non-stick finish'.

Stainless steel soleplates are cheaper but scratch easily and can snag delicate fabrics. Avoid aluminum soleplates entirely — they stain and transfer marks to white shirts.

Steam Output & Vertical Steaming

Continuous steam output should be 15-25 g/min for adequate wrinkle removal. Steam burst (shot of extra steam) should be 50-80 g for stubborn wrinkles. Always specify both numbers in your tender.

Vertical steaming capability allows guests to steam hanging clothes — a premium feature that's increasingly expected in 4★+ hotels. Specify 'vertical steam function' if your property is above 3★.

Safety Features: Non-Negotiable for Hotels

Auto shut-off: The iron must turn off after 8 minutes horizontal or 30 seconds on its side/soleplate. This is a fire safety requirement — never buy an iron without it. The auto shut-off should have a visible indicator light.

Anti-calc function: Hard water in Indian cities clogs steam vents within months. Specify 'anti-calc system with self-cleaning function' to extend iron life from 1 year to 3+ years.

Swivel cord: 360° swivel cord prevents tangling and cord breakage — the #1 maintenance issue with hotel irons. Specify '360° swivel cord, 1.8m minimum length'.

Bulk Pricing Benchmarks (India, 2026)

1200W ceramic soleplate iron (basic, auto shut-off): ₹550-800. 1300W ceramic iron (anti-calc, vertical steam): ₹700-1,000. 1500W ceramic iron (all features, premium build): ₹900-1,300.

At LaxRee, our steam irons start at ₹620 for the 1200W model (bulk pricing, 50+ units). All include auto shut-off, ceramic soleplate, and 2-year warranty. We also provide ironing boards (₹1,200-1,800) as a matching set.
